The proportion of women infected with HIV worldwide has grown in recent years. Women are more vulnerable to be infected with HIV due to anatomical and psychosocial differences. However, this changing gender trend in the HIV pandemic, biological, psychosocial, therapeutic, and quality of life aspects have not been examined in detail in women. Otherwise, this absence of research has relevance in terms of vertical transmission of the infection to newborns. For that reason and considering that in our Wings Clinic we take care of many of the men and women with HIV/AIDS in Kentucky and southern Indiana. We decided to realize a descriptive retrospective study with the review of a number of woman patient with HIV, identifying a describing the epidemiology and the biological and social factors with a greater influence on vulnerability to infection, the use of services, treatment, survival, and quality of life. |
